Look out for the enhanced plans we will be publishing as a result of local residents comments. You can download a report on the Public Exhibitions we held in August and September.

Location: The first phase of the proposed development would utilise the land which lies to south of the railway line and north of the Thanet Way, all of which is controlled by Kitewood.  The land is crossed by the un-made Maystreet Road which goes over the railway line at Maystreet Bridge, and it also adjoins Altira Business Park at Bogshole Lane.  In total the phase one land comprises 22.5 hectares (63.3 acres).

Concept: Our concept is to develop approximately 6 hectares (15 acres) of the land for employment use as an extension to Altira Business Park, 12.5 hectares (31 acres) for top quality housing and the remaining 7 hectares (17.3 acres) for attractive boundary landscaping and public open space including innovatively designed surface water retention ponds to assist with drainage of the site and to provide exciting new wildlife habitats.

Timing: Depending on feedback from the local community and finalisation of the Council’s Local Plan, we envisage submitting a planning application in early 2012 which would enable job creation and home building to commence in late 2012 and run through 2016.

Key Benefits: Some of the key benefits development of Phase 1 will provide are:

  • Cultivation of sustainable wildlife habitats and provision of 7 hectares (17.3 acres) public open space
  • Attractive boundary landscaping along the Thanet Way
  • Employment development to provide 300 new jobs
  • The construction of 375 top quality new houses
  • Building of a new link road from Altira Business Park to Sweechbridge Road which will enable access to the Thanet Way at both the Margate Road and the Heart in Hand Road junctions
  • Innovative and attractively designed surface water retention ponds to assist drainage of the site and to enhance wildlife habitats.
