Editors Note: The true proposition is actually the reverse of what is being said. This is something that CCC should have dealt with many years before Altira Business Park was approved, they played catch up when Altira came on their radar having missed the opportunity of making the developers of the houses that have actually caused the congestion responsible for the bridge in the first place. There is nothing to stop KCC carrying out the works right now and it is abdication of political responsibility to try and posit the blame for any future accident, should one occur, at Kitewood’s doorstep. This is a political issue that should have been resolved by the politicians long ago and whilst we do not recognise the comment you attribute to Roger Gale MP and therefore do not address the following comment to him, taking cheap shots at Kitewood would scarcely behove any responsible politician.

Editors Note: Kitewood wishes it to be known that they did not "excluded" anything. CCC recognised that if Kitewood were to pay for the bridge works they needed to be able to develop a certain part of Altira Business Park to generate the necessary funds. Because of the recession, not enough development has taken place at Altira and the necessary funds have not been generated. This is not a question of Kitewood avoiding any obligation it has. Kitewood fully intends to honour its obligation.

I don't know why they didn't do this when they built the new Thanet Way. Its so dangerous trying to join the road with traffic zooming by so a slip road where I can accelerate to get on the Thantet Way safely would be great.

I feel it is a short sighted policy that will only benefit big business not the people nor the environment

Its congested with cars at this moment in time, without adding adding hundreds of cars

take Herne bay's main road, its more like a B road, you have to keep pulling in for other cars to pass

Travelling from Beltinge to Canterbury, it's not possible to safely overtake
Can you imagine what kind of environment we will be living in and what we are leaving for our children, if and when this scheme goes ahead

I am definitely against this scheme

the blacksole bridge?
it has been for many years and would/should have been improved with the last development (which created more traffic), if kitewood hadnt excluded improving it until occupancy at altira had reached a certain limit.

incorrect. read the summary, 875 is their minimum number, phase 3 plan includes the possibility for 500 extra, which you can bet theyll be pushing for, bringing it to 1375.
either way thats a substantial number of more people for the amount of school places.
its not a question of could we benefit form a new school but whos going to be providing the extra capacity to accommodate the higher population.

have just found out it was kitewood itself that was responsible for building the bridge but unbelievably ccc signed up to a claus in kitewoods contract that it wouldnt be done until 17,000 square metres of altira was occupied.
roger gale said it was like holding a gun to the head as it mean waiting until someone is hit on the bridge then the council would have to do it at our expense rather than kitewoods.

Does this mean by the harvester? you can already walk over the bridge there
i miss the footpath that used to go down the side of the thanet way from the harvester to eddington, that was useful and i dont know why they didnt put it back when they rebuilt the road as it runs from the roman galley to the harvester.
now you have to walk the long way round to eddington or take your life in your hands on the dual carriage way if cycling.

there would only be minor changes to the roads and no facilities. the people buying the houses will be employed somewhere anyway and itll just be a serve as a housing bank for commuters, nothing wrong with that in itself but it wont add anything to attract employers.

by adding thousands more people to the local area wouldnt this be a planning necessity anyway?
hopefully any changes would include pavement and cycle lanes preferably isolated off the road as in europe, so people arent forced in to using their cars to go everywhere.

yes some places do pick up with more people but i think that happens if they were ok to begin with and people want to use the local town.
adding population doesnt mean things will flourish, i cant think of stronger evidence than the housing estate they built in hillborough a few years ago and there has been no improvement in anything locally as a result,... no change to the pound shops, cash converters, tattoo shops etc in herne bay, people go to canterbury, whitstable or westwood instead.
more likely that unless the house are high end of the market, which they wont be, then hb would continue to become the housing bank for local low paid workers in contrast to chobham where the demographic are probably higher paid professionals/managers/graduates etc.
im all for change as long as its an improvement in some way, but its most likely itll end up like a bland housing estate you see in thanet than somewhere that will improve the area, and that will only bring all the negative aspects of development.

ive driven out from that slip road many times, when ive used it theres usually not too much traffic on that stretch to wait for a big gap. i think it could have been better if had made a long sliproad like on the other side of the bridge rather than the junction type thats there but its the same as the ones further down at the plough etc.

Alternatively you could think Chobam in Surrey where they have built loads of well designed new homes and the local economy has done really well from it. Nothing stays the same 00264167, we need to flourish or die, whinging is not an option

You probably could have dne with a bit more schooling yourself 00264167, your maths are a bit dodgy. They want to build 825 house over smething like 10 years so you don't wake up one morning with 2500 additional screaming kids. If there were two in every house that would be 1650 of them and they would be spread over ten or more years, which means no more than 165 additional little treasures each year.

You obviousely don't drive 00264167. Perhaps you digitise yourself nto the Thanet Way in perfect alignment with the speeding traffic. The junction is very dangeous and making it safer would be in everyone's interests but clearly you just can't please some people.
